One year of Just Right Strategy

I’m incredibly proud to say my career moved in the exact direction I wanted it to move when I launched Just Right Strategy a year ago. My goal was to focus on impact-driven communications work. I love supporting organizations and movements that make an impact in our world.

Just Right Strategy had a first year with 20 plus clients, 100 plus social toolkits, 15 plus custom trainings and four in person client trips

Along with launching this company on October 15, 2020, I also supported the launch of DigiGeeks Collective in March of this year. We are a collection of freelancers who combine our strengths to work on impactful projects together.

With the combination of my own work and collaborations, I worked on a tremendous number of initiatives. Those included supporting a national civics education nonprofit, multiple national and international refugee organizations, virtual and hybrid events, a membership organization, communications support for a major school district, initiatives for one of the largest counties in the United States, training for people who work in alternative fuels, training communications advisors, one-on-one trainings, digital audits for national foundations, launching a university research center, launching a national initiative to support Black teachers, and even communications support around reopening an early childhood learning center. All of this happened while supporting my own nonprofit that recently went through a major rebrand. (Check out Design With Us!) All during a pandemic? Yes. During a global pandemic.

In total, I supported more than 20 different clients over this past year. Some I worked with for one day, others over months, a few have worked with me for the entire past year. In all, I’m honored to have the flexibility to support so many different impactful issues, organizations and people.

Almost everything I accomplished this past year happened in my home office. I only traveled out of town four times to meet up with clients in person. A lot of this work was made possible because of technology. Zoom was (and is) a dominant presence. But my favorite tools are Canva, Google Drive, Slack and Rev (my favorite caption tool).

I want to give a shoutout to my family for putting up with me as I’ve worked MANY MANY long days and nights. And to my partner in communications, Stefanie Cruz. She’s a major reason why I made the jump into fully launching Just Right Strategy.

If I had the ultimate visual to represent this past year, it would be copious amounts of Zoom boxes on a screen. But a couple of favorite mental images come to mind. First are the many ways I’ve decorated my office space. I will also never forget the incredible feeling I had when I had an in-person morning coffee meeting and then I walked to the Lincoln Memorial to enjoy the view during a work call. (Extra shoutout to Refugee Congress’s Nili Yossinger for hosting me many times this year.)

Here’s to many more years of supporting impactful organizations and causes!
